Switchboard Upgrades Rosanna

Yes. Much of Rosanna was built in the 1950s and 60s, when ceramic fuse boards were standard. These boards don't trip automatically under fault conditions and are generally not adequate for the electrical loads a modern household places on them.

Often, yes. Renovations regularly increase the electrical load on a property without anyone assessing whether the existing switchboard can handle it safely. A modern kitchen alone, with an induction cooktop, dishwasher and rangehood, can push an older board beyond what it was designed for. If your home has had significant work done without a switchboard assessment, it's worth getting one.

Not always. If your existing consumer mains are adequate, a switchboard upgrade is a standalone job. On older Rosanna properties, particularly those still on a 40A or 60A service line, the mains often need upgrading at the same time to safely support a modern switchboard and today's household loads. We check this as part of every assessment and include any mains work in your written quote before we start.

They refer to the same job. A fuse board or fuse box is the older style of switchboard, typically fitted with ceramic fuses or rewirable fuse wire rather than circuit breakers and safety switches. Replacing it with a modern switchboard fitted with RCBOs gives you automatic fault protection on every circuit. The terms are used interchangeably and we handle both.

Sometimes, yes. If your existing switchboard is in reasonable condition and has the capacity, we may be able to retrofit safety switches without a full replacement. However, many older Rosanna boards are ceramic or in poor enough condition that retrofitting isn't practical or safe, and full replacement is the better option. We'll give you an honest assessment on site before recommending anything.

Not always. If your existing mains are adequate for your current and planned loads, a switchboard replacement is a standalone job. On older Rosanna properties, particularly those that haven't had the mains assessed since original construction, an upgrade is sometimes needed, especially if you're adding an EV charger, solar inverter or additional circuits. We assess the mains as part of every switchboard quote and include any required work upfront.

Most upgrades are completed in a single visit. Your power will be off for most of that time, but we aim to keep that window as short as possible. Where mains work is also required, we'll give you a clear timeframe in your written quote.
