For a permanent home system we almost always recommend wired PoE cameras. They are more reliable, deliver better image quality and are not dependent on Wi-Fi strength, which can struggle to reach across the larger period blocks or through the solid walls of Ivanhoe's older homes. Wireless can suit specific spots where cabling is difficult, but it should be the exception, not the whole system.

That comes down to the size of the hard drive in your recorder and the number of cameras. Most home systems are set up to keep several weeks of footage before older recordings are overwritten. We size the storage to how far back you want to be able to look and configure it during installation.

You can install CCTV on your own property to monitor your home. What you cannot do is record areas where others have a reasonable expectation of privacy, and recording audio carries separate, stricter rules under the Surveillance Devices Act 1999. Signage is not always mandatory for a private home, but it can act as a deterrent. We advise on this when planning the system.

Under the Surveillance Devices Act 1999 you cannot record areas where a neighbour has a reasonable expectation of privacy, such as inside their home or private yard. On Ivanhoe's tighter blocks and in the apartments near the strip the neighbours sit close to your boundaries, so a camera aimed at your own entry or driveway can easily stray onto their property or onto common areas. We plan angles and use privacy masking so your system stays compliant while still covering what counts.
