Electrical Services for Homes and Businesses in Doreen
Electricians Servicing Doreen
Doreen sits at the top of our Plenty Road run, straight up from Lower Plenty through Bundoora and Mill Park, and we're in the suburb every week working for homeowners, landlords, builders and businesses, including around the Laurimar town centre.
The everyday work covers EV charger installations, extra powerpoints and circuits, LED downlights, smoke alarms, CCTV and security cameras, data cabling, outdoor and alfresco power, and fault finding.
Doreen's homes are mostly under fifteen years old, which changes the nature of the work rather than removing it. Volume builders wire to the contract minimum, so the most common jobs here are the ones that finish the house: powerpoints where the family actually needs them, a proper alfresco setup, data points that reach the study. New boards arrive compliant but often full, so adding an EV charger, a spa or a shed circuit usually starts with making room, and with solar on most Laurimar and Hazel Glen rooftops, we're increasingly pairing chargers with panels so the car runs on home-generated power. On the larger lots toward the Yan Yean side, shed supplies and long outdoor runs round out the picture.
Every job is backed by Jonathan Bitzikopoulos's 25+ years of industry experience, a lifetime workmanship guarantee, a written quote before we start with no variations on the day, and clean, compliant workmanship you can rely on.

Electrician Doreen: Frequently Asked Questions
Do you provide electrical services throughout Doreen?
Yes, right across the suburb, from Laurimar and its town centre through Hazel Glen and the newer estates to the larger lots out toward the Yan Yean side. We come up the Plenty Road corridor from our Lower Plenty base, and Doreen is part of the regular run. Call 1300 215 193 to book a time.
What electrical services do you offer in Doreen?
The lot: EV charger installation, extra powerpoints and circuits, LED downlights, smoke alarms, CCTV and security cameras, data cabling and wifi points, outdoor and alfresco power, fault finding, switchboard work, rental safety checks and complete electrical fitouts for renovations and extensions. We also handle commercial work around the Laurimar town centre shops.
How much does an electrician cost in Doreen?
Depends on the job, and we'd rather price the actual work than quote an hourly rate that tells you nothing. We assess what's involved, then give you a written quote before anything starts. What's quoted is what you pay, no variations on the day. Most enquiries hear back from us the same day.
My builder only put in the basic powerpoints. Can you add more?
This might be the most common call we get from Doreen. Volume builders wire to the contract minimum, and it usually takes about six months of living in a new home to discover where the powerpoints should have gone: the kitchen bench, the study nook, behind the TV, the garage workbench. We add points and circuits neatly, matching your existing fittings, without carving up walls that were painted last year.
My new home came "EV ready". What does that actually mean?
Usually less than the brochure implied. In most new estates "EV ready" or "EV provisioned" means a conduit run to the garage, and sometimes space left in the board, but no actual charger, cable or dedicated circuit. The good news is the provisioning genuinely does cut installation cost and mess. We inspect what your builder left, tell you exactly what's there, and quote the completed installation. Details on our Doreen EV charger installation page.
Doesn't a new home mean I won't need an electrician for years?
Mostly, but not entirely. New boards are compliant, but they're often filled to the last module on handover day, so adding anything, a charger, a spa, a shed circuit, means board work first. We also see nuisance tripping from budget-grade safety switches, downlights that fail early, and alfresco areas handed over with a single light where a family actually lives half the year. None of it is dramatic; all of it is fixable in a visit.
Can you connect an EV charger to my solar?
Yes. Most Doreen rooftops came with solar or added it soon after, and several of the chargers we install support solar-aware charging, ramping up when your panels are exporting so the car fills on your own power. We look at your inverter, your board and your driving habits and recommend the setup that makes the numbers work.
Can you run power to a shed or garage on a bigger Doreen block?
Yes. Out toward the suburb's edges the lots get bigger and the sheds more serious, and a proper shed supply means correctly rated cable, protection at the board and often a small sub-board at the shed end. We plan the run, coordinate the trenching and complete the fitout, and if the shed is still a plan rather than a slab, involving us early always makes it cheaper.
Can you do the electrical safety check for my Doreen rental property?
Yes. Victorian rental properties need an electrical safety check by a licensed electrician every two years, newer homes included; the requirement doesn't age-test the house. We do the full check, supply the compliance documentation your property manager needs, and quote any rectification work in the same visit.
Do you install and check smoke alarms in Doreen?
Yes. Doreen's homes were built under the interconnected photoelectric alarm requirements, so most have compliant systems, but alarms still age, fail and get painted over, and extensions change where they're needed. We test, replace and extend alarm systems, and every residential visit includes a free safety check.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Bitz Electrical holds a Registered Electrical Contractors Licence (31813), is fully insured and is a member of Master Electricians Australia. Every electrician who works on your property is fully licensed, and eligible work comes with a Certificate of Electrical Safety on completion.
My safety switch keeps tripping in a nearly new house. Is that normal?
It's common, but it's not something to live with. In newer Doreen homes the usual causes are a budget appliance leaking current, a heavily loaded circuit doing more than its share, or occasionally a marginal switch from the original fitout. We test each circuit methodically, identify the actual cause and fix that, rather than leaving you resetting the board every time the kettle and the heater run together.
Why choose Bitz Electrical as your Doreen electrician?
Because the work is done once, properly, at the price quoted. Jonathan Bitzikopoulos brings more than 25 years of industry experience, every job carries a lifetime workmanship guarantee, and you get a written quote before anything starts with no variations on the day. In a suburb where everyone's had a trades story since the build, that reliability travels fast between neighbours.
